It was always the premise of the press that the main reason why BNO holders cannot get dual nationality was because the Chinese government would never allow it. This view has however changed this year with documents being made available from the 1980’s that Britain had no intention of allowing Hong Kong residents to become British nationals and that it was not the Chinese government after all. The German Embassy in Hong Kong confirms on their website that BN(O), HKSAR or Macau SAR passport do not need a visa to visit the Schengen Area as a tourist for up to 90 days in any 6-month period.
