The issue of the status of BNO holders has again raised its head in January 2015 with the lobby group BritishHongKong arguing for the right to live in the United Kingdom. The issue has been replied to by the FCO as to how they view BNO holders as follows.
There are about 1.2 million British nationals (including dual nationals) living in Australia, and more than 620,000 British nationals visit Australia each year for the purposes of tourism. More than 3.8 million British Nationals visit the US each year without much incident. The US Visa Waiver Program allows British nationals into America for 90 days at a time however you will need to obtain a Electronic System for Travel Authorisation (ESTA) pass before you travel to the US. If you have an extended passport for 12 month then this will only be accepted in rare cases.

With an ongoing drug war the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) advise against all travel to within 80km (50 miles) of the Colombian border while in Venezuela. There have also been violent protests in Merida City and this has affected the tourist areas. Always speak to your local travel agent before booking. Street crime is high however with more than 9,000 British nationals visiting Venezuela there has been few incidents for consular assistance. There have been a number of anti-China protests in 2014 but this has died down. The Tropical cyclones affect the eastern coastal regions. The season normally runs from May to November and you need to remember this if you are coming to Vietnam on holiday.
