Registering a Birth or Death The British government does not have facilities in Nuuk to register births or deaths. These life events must be handled through local Greenlandic authorities first, followed by a centralized digital process if you wish to record the event with the UK. Local Registration: You must first register the birth or death with the local civil registry in Greenland to obtain an official local certificate.

UK Registration (Optional):

You may optionally register the event with the UK authorities to have it recorded in the UK. This is done entirely online via the portal. Once you apply online, you will be instructed to mail your original documentation (such as your local certificate) to the Overseas Registration Unit in the United Kingdom.  This is not mandatory, but it allows you to obtain a consular birth or death registration certificate.
