British ConsulateMore than 12 million British nationals each year travel to Spain for recreation and business. It is now estimated that more than 800,000 British nationals live and work in Spain for all or part of the year.   • It has been noted that each year the British consulates in Alicante, Barcelona, Ibiza, Las Palmas,Madrid, Malaga, Palma de Mallorca, and Tenerife deal with more than 5,000 cases of British nationals in need of consular assistance while visiting Spain

  • In 2012 the British Embassy in Madrid issued 5,709 emergency travel documents to British nationals  in Spain who have had the passports either stolen or lost while in Spain.
  • Note that the Embassy and consulate do provide generic (not individual) property advice to British nationals who are wanting to buy property in Spain.
