If you happen to lose your passport while in the country, the first step is to report the incident to the Belgium police to obtain a case number. The police will provide you with a letter which you can take to the British Embassy to either get a temporary passport or apply for a new one. See also the emergency passport UK on here.

If you wish to stay in the country. The temporary passport will enable you to leave the country, while a new passport will take longer if you live in Belgium. You will also need to transfer your old Belgium visa to your new passport. Applying for a new passport online is possible, but you will still need to provide the police report. Furthermore, tracking your passport is now possible with a tracking number.
